So Busy !! ( Long Post)

Life has been so busy that I have not had a chance to post in quite a while. The rabbits are all doing wonderful. Here is Spotted Momma and her 8 babies. This is a litter by Sir Poops A Lot , these babies are 4 1/2 weeks old. I am super happy with this litter as she has never had this many brokens in any of her other litters. I will be reserving a nice broken blanket chestnut male from this litter, I will get some pictures of just him posted in the next week or so.

Fern also had a very nice litter by Sir Poops A Lot. These guys are just a few days younger than the above litter. She had 2 Harlequins that are lightly marked, 2 blacks and 8 chestnuts. I can always count on Sir Poops A Lots to throw some odd kits, He always throws Harlequin or black tort kits.

However it looks like he has yet thrown another surprise at me. This is a litter from Silver that was sired by him. These babies are only 4 days old. It will be a few days before I can tell if these kits are fawn or chocolate tort.I am really hoping that they are chocolate torts !! Either way if they are female I will pick the best one of the two to keep.

A Finish and Rabbit Update

I have finally finished Sarah Hook. I must say that I am very please with how it turned out. Now I just have to get my truck fixed so that I can get down to Augusta to get it framed.

The little mystery kit from Cassie's litter turned out to be a tort - not sure if it is a blue tort or a black tort. It looks as though it might have little white toes :)

Fern's litter is doing great, lots of agouti's in this litter but also 3 lightly marked harlequins. Fern is such a wonderful momma :)

Here you can see that Fern is so exited to get scratches on her head. I just love the little harlequin kit that is beside her - I believe that it is a little buck (male). I am pretty sure the other two harlequins are females.

I love to sit and watch the bunnies play. Nothing makes me happier then sitting in my chair outside with a nice cup of coffee and my stitching while watching the babies.

Speaking of stitching this is a long time UFO - matter of fact I had forgotten that I had even started it :) It is called Salem Sisters II and the designer is Plum Street Samplers.

Rabbit Hutch Makeover

Yesterday I did not get around to making new nest boxes like I had planned - instead I decided to work on the rabbit hutch. Once I started trying to clean it I realized just how bad off it really was.

I decided to get it really clean I was going to have to take a good bit of it apart. Once I started doing that I noticed that some of the wood had begun to rot so I had to cut a few replacement boards.

I have decided instead of using it for a Momma and litter I will divide it into 3 pens that are 2 x 3 and use it to house some of my bucks. It will be the future home of Pee Wee, Moose and Sir Poops A Lot.

I have also decided instead of having plywood for the floor I will have wire. I find that having the rabbits on wire keeps them so much cleaner then if they are on a solid bottom. I have some left over plywood that I will cut into resting boards.

Just wanted to give you a peek at Fern's litter. 10 of the 12 survived and they are a bit over 2 weeks old. I just removed their nest box yesterday. I added some hay to the cage to prevent little leg being trapped in the wire.

Rabbit and Chicken Coop Update

Fern's litter is doing great, they are now 8 days old. However we did lose 1 of the runts the other day, I am guessing to the nasty heat we have been having here.

Sadly we have also lost 2 of Cali's litter also to heat stress. I have been running 3 fans to try to keep everyone cool, next year I believe that I will take a break from breeding during the hottest part of the summer.

Work on the chicken pen is coming along at a snails pace, I really thought I would be finished with it by now.

Yesterday I finished attaching the chicken wire around the outside of the pen and started to frame in one of the doors. Today my goal is to finish one of the doors and to get the top onto the nest area.

I am finding that I am not very handy when it comes to electric tools lol :) I can't cut a straight line with the skill saw to save my life, but I will muddle through this project the best that I can.

I find however that my chickens seem to be liking the progress on the coop and they don't seem to mind if my cuts are far from perfect. As soon as I finish this side I will be putting my Marana's and turkey's in then starting on the second side :)

Baby Update

This is Cali's litter - they will be 1 week old tomorrow. The litter has 4 auouti kits and 4 black kits.

All 8 of these babies are already spoken for. Cali has been a wonderful and attentive momma.I am pretty sure that she is genetically a black rabbit under her California markings.

This is Spotted Momma's litter, they also will be a week old tomorrow. These babies are also spoken for. She had 5 red eye whites, 2 black spotted , 1 agouti spotted and 1 black. Sadly she killed one of the REW's so she is left with 8 babies.

She is not the best mother, I have kept 2 of her daughters (Pip and Pop) from her last litter that I will be replacing her with. I hope they have better mothering abilities than their mother does.

Fern graced us with 12 beautiful babies yesterday morning. I was lucky enough to be out there while she was having them - quite the experience :) I am pretty sure that the 3 light one will be harlequins. I will know better in 4 or 5 days.

It also appears as though she may have a couple of blues, agouti's, and blacks in this litter as well. I might be reserving this whole litter for myself. If I do some will be kept as future breeders and others will go to freezer camp.

Bunny Update

Just a little rabbit update, as you can see I really need to get off of my behind and get out there and clean today. I also need to get some nest boxes filled and ready to be put into cages as I have 3 does that are due on the 6th.

This is Fern, my Flemish/Californian cross. She is due to kindle the 12th of July. The last time I bred her she missed so I am really looking forward to some babies from her this time. She was bred to Sir Poops A Lot, my Flemish/Lop cross.

This is Bob my California buck, he is such a sweetie pie :) He always runs up to the front of his kennel wanting chin rubs.

This is Hershey, a chocolate doe of unknown parentage. I picked her up from the local feed store last month as an 8 week old kit.She will be 4 months old on July 15th, I am really liking her growth. She looks like she will be about 10 pounds full grown. I will get some better photo's of her for my next post.

This is Sir Poops A Lot, he really is much larger then he appears in this photo. He is 6 months old and about 8 pounds. As soon as I can find a nice buck to replace him I will be doing so. He tend to throw all Agouti and REW babies and I was hoping he would have a bit more color in the babies. I really am not a fan of Augouti or REW.
If you notice in this picture his cage is falling apart. I bought several cages from Tractor Supply and they just do not hold up. For 30.00 you would think they would last longer than a couple of months!

Cleo's babies are doing so good! They are now almost 3 weeks old and I am puling the nest box today. In the next post I will get some close ups of the babies, she has 1 little black baby in this litter that I am just in love with. If it is a doe I very well may keep it.

In this pen we have Sammie ( from Fern's last litter - only Harlequin in the litter, doe), White Toe's ( from Cleo's last litter, buck), Pee Wee and Moose ( two babies I bought last month) and 1 left over from Spotted Momma's litter ( white buck). I am separating them out today and they will all be going into their own cages.
I am pretty disappointed as it turns out Pee Wee is not the buck that I thought, but instead a doe. I was really hoping that Pee Wee would be my replacement for Sir Poops A Lot but I guess I will just have to keep on searching!

Please hop on over and check out:
